Oral Thrush Symptoms

The most common symptom of thrush is the visible white patches that show up in the mouth. These patches are yeast (Candida albicans), the fungus that is thrush. The white growths of thrush are often painful when rubbed and can bleed when pressed or rubbed. The spots are typically milky white but can be off-whit to yellow in color.

In severe cases of thrush, these white lesions of Candida can actually migrate down the esophagus. Once thrush has invaded the esophagus, thrush can make the throat feel like food is caught in the throat. Eventually, thrush can progress into the intestines and liver. Yeast infections commonly in women once Candida has become resident in the intestines.

Symptoms of Thrush on the Nipples

Breastfeeding mothers with babies fighting thrush can occasionally contract thrush on their nipples. Symptoms of thrush on the nipples include excessive redness, flaking skin on the breast, intense pain while breastfeeding, and general pain deep in the breast. Thrush can pass between and infant and a mother and back again; making treating thrush imperative for any breastfeeding mother.
